  • Quicker start up and smoother perfomance - particularly on slower graphics hardware.
  • Numerous improvements to image quality such as fatter particles, outlined isolines and improved colour scales.
  • Real-time performance scaling for wind arrows & particles. The number of arrows/particles dynamically varies depending on the view, number of layers selected, window size and hardware performance. Consequently, the maximum number of arrows/particles has been doubled to take advantage of faster hardware.
6th September 2014 - Version 2.2
  • Wind speed map added to all altitudes.
  • Precipitation map added. Currently this reflects only the amount of precipitation, but in the future will be extended to include precipitation type (snow / rain / ice pellets / freezing rain).
  • Total cloud cover map added.
  • Absolute vorticity maps added for levels 850mb, 700mb, 500mb & 250mb.
  • Wind barbs added as an alternative to the existing wind arrows and particles.
  • All colour scales have been tweaked according to "colour advice for cartography" by Cynthia Brewer.
  • The wind speed scale has been extended to include categories that correspond with the Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale. Thus the entire wind speed scale runs through Beaufort 0-11 and then Saffir-Simpson category 1-5.

  • Miniature graphs have been placed next to most numerical data to chart how the values change over time.
  • The start & end points of the time slider can now be modified to create shorter loops.
    By default it starts at the current time, rather than the forecast start time.
  • Heat Index and Wind-chill figures have been combined into a single Apparent Temperature value.
  • Wind gust speed has been added to the marker panel.
17th July 2014 - Version 2.0
  • There are now two ways to query the raw numerical GFS forecast data:
    1. A marker can be placed on the globe to query the surface properties at that point. By default, it is placed at your current location.
    2. The numerical values for any currently selected layers can be queried by turning on "Display Mouse Hover Data" in the options menu.
    In cases where there are slight differences between the numerical values and graphical display - the numerical values are more accurate. The data used in the graphical display is compressed, whereas numerical values are drawn from the raw GFS data and interpolated at the highest precision.
  • Temperature, humidity and wind are now available at Surface, 850mb, 700mb, 500mb and 250mb levels.
  • A clearer vector map of the Earth which now includes country and state borders.
  • New "outline" map mode.
  • New particle wind animation.
  • Faster interface rendering that is now replicated in screen captures.
  • Better performance - particularly on high resolution displays.
